THINKING IN GENDER TERMS OF THE LAW FIRM
A documentary film by Michael R. L'Homme
Women, Film and the Law, Spring 2014

THINKING IN GENDER TERMS OF THE LAW FIRM is a short film inspired by the real life experiences of two new attorneys in their mid-twenties. The film was meant to establish the perceptual disparities a male and a female with identical degrees face in identical professional situations. Building off of the premise "first day as a new associate in a law firm," the thoughts and considerations upon entering a new job for new female attorneys outweighs that of many of their male colleagues. Although the end result is the same (success in your new position), it was striking to explore what goes through the mental checklist of a man on his first day on the job compared to that of a woman walking into the exact same environment.

If nothing else, it was the mission of this film to highlight how even today, the law firm environment may be a more stressful place simply based on your gender.
